Product details
Part 574339 is a genuine Fisher & Paykel thermal limiter rated at 55°C, a safety switch for Fisher & Paykel ovens. It reacts to the temperature of the spot where it is mounted and switches its circuit when that point passes 55°C. A sister part, 574340, is a 175°C limiter, so the rating matters. Check the number and temperature printed on your old limiter before ordering 574339.
Why an oven uses a low temperature limiter
Cooking temperatures run far above 55°C, so a limiter with this rating protects a cooler part of the appliance rather than the cavity itself, such as the area around the controls or the outer casing. If that area overheats, often because a cooling fan has stopped or vents are blocked, the limiter steps in. A limiter that has failed can leave the oven dead or stop it heating, depending on how it is wired. One that trips over and over is warning you of a real heat problem, so find and fix the cause before fitting a new one.

Replacing the limiter
Isolate the oven at the switchboard and let it cool. Find the old limiter, note which terminals the wires connect to and photograph it in place. Fit the new one in the same position so it senses the same area. Check the cooling fan runs and the vents are clear before putting the oven back. Hard-wired ovens need a licensed electrician.
Questions about this part
How do I test a thermal limiter?
Isolate the power, remove the wires and check across the terminals with a multimeter at room temperature. Limiters are usually closed when cool and open when hot, but some low temperature switches work the other way, so check the markings on the old part before deciding it has failed.
