Grill not heating? Checking the dual top element
The top element does the grilling, and this one has two circuits. A half grill setting powers the smaller section at the lower rating, while full grill brings in both for 2200W across the roof of the cavity. Signs of failure include the grill not heating at all, only one part of the element glowing red, slow or patchy browning, and visible splits, blisters or burn marks on the element sheath. An element that has shorted may trip the safety switch as soon as grill is selected. With the power isolated, a multimeter will show which circuit has gone open.

Fitting the grill element
Turn the oven off at the isolating switch or switchboard first. Ovens like these are usually hard-wired, so the element should be fitted by a licensed electrician or qualified technician. Photograph the terminal connections before removing the old element, as the dual circuit wiring must go back exactly as it was. Make sure the hinged bracket sits the same way as on the old part, then test half and full grill.
