Oven door glass cracked on the inside?

The inner glass is the panel you see when the door is open. It faces the full cavity heat and, with the other panes, keeps heat in the oven and the outside of the door cooler. Cracks usually start from thermal shock, such as cold water hitting hot glass, or from a knock with a tray. Crazing, chips at the edge and a crack that grows each time the oven heats are all reasons to replace it straight away, as damaged glass can shatter.

Changing the inner glass

Turn the oven off and let it cool completely. Remove the door if that makes the job easier, and lay it on a soft, flat surface. Note the orientation of the old glass and any printed side or coating before taking it out, then fit the new panel the same way round. Wear gloves, and check all clips and seals are seated before refitting the door.
