It takes the ground coffee, compresses it, brews the shot and drops the used puck into the grounds container. De'Longhi has made several brew unit versions and they're not all interchangeable, so match this number to your old unit or your machine's parts list first.
Weak, watery coffee or a leaking brew group
The brewing unit compresses the coffee and forces hot water through it under pressure. As seals wear and the piston mechanism ages, coffee can come out weak and watery, grounds may stay wet and sloppy, and water can leak into the drip tray instead of reaching the cup. Some machines show a general error or refuse to brew when the unit jams. Cleaning and lubricating the unit sometimes helps, but cracked parts, worn seals or a stuck piston usually mean it's time for a new one.

Swapping the brew unit
Switch the machine off and unplug it. Open the service door, press the release buttons and pull the old unit straight out. Before fitting the new one, make sure it's in the rest position shown in your manual. Slide it in until it clicks, close the door and run a rinse before brewing your first coffee.
