Product details
Part 545259 is a genuine Fisher & Paykel oven temperature sensor. It sits in the oven cavity and reports the temperature to the oven's electronic controls, which then switch the elements on and off to hold your setting. A steam oven version, 545259P, is a different part, so check the full number on your old sensor before you order. Model details for 545259 aren't on file yet.
Fisher & Paykel oven temperature wrong? A failing sensor is a likely cause
The sensor's resistance changes as the cavity heats up, and the control board turns that reading into a temperature. When the sensor drifts, the oven might run much hotter or cooler than the display says, take an unusually long time to preheat, or burn food at normal settings. A sensor that fails completely often stops the oven heating altogether and brings up a fault code. Check the plug at the back of the sensor for heat damage or a loose fit, as poor connections cause similar faults.

Replacing the oven sensor
Switch the oven off at the isolator or switchboard and let it cool. The sensor usually mounts through the back wall of the cavity with a screw or two, with its connector reached from behind, so the oven may need to come out of its cabinet. Don't bend the sensor body. Hard-wired ovens should be reconnected by a licensed electrician.
Questions about this part
How do I test the old sensor?
With the power off and the sensor unplugged, measure its resistance at room temperature with a multimeter and compare it with the figure in the oven's service information. Readings that are far off, open circuit or jumpy when you wiggle the lead point to a failed sensor.
