What a 60 degree limiter does

Small snap disc thermostats like the Campini TY60 sit against a surface and react when it reaches their rated temperature. A normally open version switches a circuit on once that point is reached, which appliances often use to start a cooling fan or bring in another function as things warm up. If it fails open, whatever it controls never switches on, which can lead to overheating, heat damaged knobs or panels, or a safety cutout tripping. If it fails closed, that circuit runs all the time, even from cold.
