Product details

Knob cracked, spinning on its spindle or missing altogether? 533796 is the genuine Fisher & Paykel control knob assembly for a series of F&P gas cooktops. It is listed for 16 models, from the CG301D and CG302D through the CG451D, CG603D, CG604D and CG752D up to the CG903D and CG905D, in both natural gas and LPG versions.

Cooktop knob spinning, cracked or hard to turn?

The knob is how you push and turn the gas valve to light a burner and set the flame. Inside it is a moulded socket that grips the flat on the valve spindle. Heat from the burners, spills and harsh cleaners slowly weaken the plastic, so the socket splits and the knob spins without turning the valve, or the knob cracks and comes off in your hand. A loose knob makes it hard to tell which flame setting you are on and can stop you pushing far enough to light the burner. Never use pliers on a bare spindle.

Part details

  • Genuine Fisher & Paykel part 533796
  • Control knob assembly for gas cooktops
  • Listed for 16 Fisher & Paykel CG series cooktops
  • Covers NG and LPG versions of the CG301D to CG905D models

Fitting the new knob

Make sure all burners are off and the cooktop has cooled. Pull the old knob straight up off the valve spindle, without levering against the cooktop surface. Line the socket of the new knob up with the flat on the spindle and press it down firmly until it seats. Check it turns smoothly through every setting and the burner lights normally. A knob swap isn't gas work, but any gas smell or leak needs a licensed gas fitter.

Questions about this part

How do I find my cooktop model?

Fisher & Paykel cooktops have a data label underneath the cooktop, and the model is also shown in the installation guide. Look for a model such as CG604DNGGB1, where NG marks natural gas and LP marks LPG.
