The electrode sits beside the burner and sparks to light the gas when you press and turn the knob. One gas burner won't light

If every burner clicks except one, or one burner sparks weakly or only now and then, the electrode at that burner is a likely suspect. Electrodes fail when the ceramic insulator cracks, the tip is bent too far from the burner, or the lead breaks down and arcs to the cooktop body. Spills and cleaning products can also coat the tip. Dry and clean the burner parts and check the cap is seated properly first, as a wet or misaligned burner gives similar symptoms.

Fitting a cooktop electrode

Turn the cooktop off at the wall and close the gas isolation valve. Lift the cooktop or remove the burner parts to reach the electrode, then trace the lead back to the ignition module. Fit the new electrode with the tip in the same position relative to the burner and route the lead clear of hot surfaces. Gas appliance repairs must be done by a licensed gas fitter.
