Changing the knob
Make sure every burner or element is off and the cooktop has cooled. Most knobs pull straight up off the spindle, so grip firmly and lift without forcing it against the off stop. Line up the flat on the spindle with the new knob and press it on until it seats. Turn it through its full range to check it moves smoothly and returns to off.
