LG washer not filling, filling slowly or overfilling

The inlet valve uses electrically operated solenoids to open and close the water supply on command from the control board. When a coil burns out or the valve sticks shut, the machine won't fill, fills on only one temperature, or stops with an inlet error such as IE. If debris holds a valve partly open, water can keep trickling into the tub even with the washer switched off, which is a real flood risk. Slow filling is often caused by the small mesh screens inside the inlets clogging with sediment, so check and clean those first.

Changing the inlet valve

Turn off both taps and unplug the washer. Disconnect the supply hoses, then remove the rear or top panel to reach the valve, depending on the model. Photograph the wiring and the internal hose positions before removing anything. Fit the new valve, reconnect each wire to the matching solenoid and secure the internal hoses with their clamps. Turn the taps on slowly and check for leaks before running a wash.

Can a blocked filter screen cause the same problem?

Yes. A clogged screen at the hose connection slows or stops filling and can look like a failed valve. Turn the taps off, remove the hoses and clean the screens. If the machine still won't fill properly, the valve is the next step.
