Product details

Part 50299202007 is a genuine Electrolux high voltage capacitor, the HV capacitor used in the power circuit of a microwave oven. Together with the transformer and diode, it builds up the voltage that drives the magnetron. No model list is on file for this capacitor, so check the number and the ratings printed on your old one before ordering.

Microwave runs but won't heat? The HV capacitor could be the cause

In a microwave the transformer, HV diode and HV capacitor work as a voltage doubler to power the magnetron. If the capacitor shorts or loses capacitance, the magnetron gets too little power or none at all. Typical signs are a microwave that lights up, turns and hums but doesn't heat food, a loud buzz during cooking, or a fuse that blows as soon as cooking starts. A failed diode or magnetron can cause the same symptoms, so these parts should be tested together by someone trained in microwave repair.

Safety before replacing an HV capacitor

Microwave HV capacitors can hold a dangerous charge long after the oven is unplugged, so this is a job for a trained technician. Unplug the oven, safely discharge the capacitor with an insulated tool before touching anything, and photograph the wiring. After fitting, the oven should be checked for microwave leakage before it goes back into use.

Questions about this part

Can I replace this capacitor myself?

We strongly advise against it unless you're trained in microwave repair. The capacitor can store a lethal charge even with the oven unplugged, and a leakage test is needed after the job. A qualified appliance technician can fit and test it safely.
