Westinghouse fridge too warm or freezing food?
In a frost free fridge, cold air is made in the freezer and fed into the fresh food section through a duct. This motorised baffle sits in that duct and opens or closes on command from the control to hold the fridge at the temperature you set. If the motor fails or the flap jams, it can stick shut, leaving the freezer cold and the fridge warm, or stick open, freezing lettuce and drinks. Ice around the baffle can cause the same problems, and some units click or buzz as the motor struggles. Check for ice before assuming the baffle has failed.

Changing the motorised baffle
Unplug the fridge and move food to an esky or another fridge. The baffle is usually behind a cover in the fresh food compartment, so remove the shelves and duct cover, then photograph the wiring plug and foam seals. Fit the new baffle with its seals in place so air can't bypass it. Let the fridge run for several hours and check both compartments reach temperature.

How do I know if the baffle has failed?
A cold freezer with a warm fridge section is the classic sign, but ice blocking the duct can look the same. If clearing any ice doesn't fix it, or the flap won't move when the fridge calls for cooling, the baffle is the likely fault.
