Product details

Part 50291941008 is a genuine Electrolux thermal fuse supplied with its wiring harness, and it's also linked to Electrolux number 1448817. In a frost-free fridge, the thermal fuse is a safety cut-out that breaks the circuit if the area around the defrost heater gets too hot. Match either number to your old part or your fridge's parts list before ordering, as no models are on file.

Freezer iced up and fridge warm? Check the thermal fuse

The thermal fuse is a one-shot safety device. If the temperature around it rises past its rating, it opens and cuts power to the circuit it protects, and it won't reset. In fridges that usually means the defrost heater stops working. Frost then builds up on the evaporator until air can't flow, so the fridge section warms up, the freezer struggles and you may see ice on the back panel. A blown fuse often has a cause, such as a faulty defrost thermostat, so check the rest of the defrost circuit too.

Fitting the thermal fuse

Unplug the fridge and let the freezer defrost before working near the evaporator. Photograph how the harness is routed and where the fuse is clipped, then fit the new one in exactly the same place so it senses the right temperature. Use a multimeter to confirm the heater and defrost thermostat are sound before closing it up.

Questions about this part

Why did my thermal fuse blow?

A thermal fuse opens when it gets too hot, so something caused that heat. A defrost thermostat that didn't switch off, or a heater running too long, are common reasons. Test those parts as well, or the new fuse may blow again.
