The top basket rolls in and out on wheels that run along rails on each side of the tub. Constant heat, detergent and the weight of a loaded basket wear the wheels down over time. Cracked or flat-spotted wheels make the basket stick, jolt or tip, and a missing wheel can let the basket derail and drop onto the lower rack. That can also knock the upper spray arm or stop the door closing properly. Replacing the full set restores a smooth, level slide.

Changing the basket wheels
Wait until the dishwasher has finished and cooled, then slide the top basket out. Release the end stops or clips on the rails and lift the basket clear. Unclip the old wheels, noting which way they face, and fit the new ones in the same positions. Refit the basket and run it in and out a few times to check it glides.
