Slide-out rangehood drawer sticking or sagging?

On a slide-out rangehood, the front drawer runs in and out on a pair of runners, one each side. When a runner wears or bends, the drawer can stick, drag, sit crooked, drop at one corner or refuse to close fully. Grease build-up makes things worse over time. On hoods where pulling the drawer out switches the fan on, a misaligned drawer can also stop the fan or lights from working properly. Swapping the worn runner gets the drawer sliding straight again.

Fitting a rangehood runner

Isolate power to the rangehood first, either at the wall socket or at the switchboard if it's hard-wired. Hard-wired hoods should be worked on by a licensed electrician. Support the drawer as you remove it, as it can drop once the runner fixings are out. Fit the new runner the same way round as the old one, then slide the drawer through its full travel to check it runs smoothly.
