Product details

This genuine Eurostyle group part, 502008900, is an over-temperature thermostat, the safety cut-out that protects an oven when things run too hot. It belongs to the Eurostyle cooking range alongside the oven switches. Its rating and the exact appliance models aren't on file, so match 502008900 against the number on your existing thermostat, or send your oven's model and serial number through the parts enquiry form for a check.

Oven cutting out or not heating? Check the safety thermostat

An over-temperature thermostat is a safety device. It's mounted where it can sense heat building up, and if the temperature passes its set limit it opens the circuit and cuts the heating. When one fails open, the oven may not heat at all, or it may heat and then switch itself off part way through cooking and refuse to restart until it cools. Repeated tripping often has another cause, such as a failed cooling fan or a faulty main thermostat, so check those too rather than just replacing the cut-out.

Changing the over-temperature thermostat

Ovens are usually hard-wired, so have a licensed electrician fit this part with power isolated at the switchboard. Photograph the wiring before removing the old thermostat, and keep the mounting position and any heat shield exactly as found. Find out why the old one tripped before handing the oven back, because a new cut-out will trip again if the oven is genuinely overheating.

Questions about this part

Is this the same as the oven's temperature control thermostat?

No. The control thermostat sets the cooking temperature you choose on the knob. 502008900 is an over-temperature safety device that only cuts power if the oven overheats. Work out which one has failed before ordering.
