Fan forced oven not heating? Signs of a failed fan element
The fan forced element is the ring shaped heater wrapped around the fan at the back of the oven. The fan pulls air through the ring and blows it around the cavity, giving even heat on every shelf. When the element burns out, fan forced functions heat slowly or not at all, while grill and conventional settings may still work. Other clues are a blister or break in the element sheath, a flash or bang when it failed, or a tripped safety switch every time a fan function is selected.

Fitting a fan forced element
Built-in ovens are usually hard-wired, so in Australia this element should be fitted by a licensed electrician with the circuit isolated at the switchboard. The job involves removing the fan cover inside the oven and the rear panel outside it. Wiring should be photographed before the old element is disconnected. Once fitted, run the oven on fan forced for half an hour, as a light burning-off smell is normal the first time.
