LG dishwasher door dropping open or slamming down?
Each side of the door has a hinge held in balance by a spring at the side of the cabinet. This rope connector ties the two together, so the door lowers gently and stays where you leave it. When the rope frays, stretches or snaps, the door crashes down as you open it, sits lopsided, or springs back up unexpectedly. Some people hear a ping when it breaks, or find the loose end of the cord under the machine. A broken connector on one side throws extra load onto the other, so it pays to check both.

Fitting the hinge rope
Switch the dishwasher off at the wall and turn off the tap. You will usually need to slide the machine out and take off a side or kick panel to reach the hinge and spring. Note how the old rope is routed and where each end attaches before removing it, fit the new one along the same path, then open and close the door a few times to check it moves smoothly.

Do I need one for each side of the door?
LG dishwashers like these have a hinge and spring on each side of the door. If one rope has snapped, the other has done the same amount of work, so many people replace both together. Check each side before ordering.
