When to replace a top loader lid
The lid closes over the wash opening, keeps splashes and suds in, and presses on the lid switch or lock so the washer knows it's safe to spin. A lid with cracks, broken hinge points or a snapped tab may not close properly, and the machine can then refuse to spin, pause mid-cycle or show a lid error. Sun exposure can also make an older white lid brittle and discoloured. Fitting a new lid restores a proper close and a tidy look.

Fitting the new lid
Unplug the washer before removing the old lid. Undo the hinge fixings while someone holds the lid, and keep any screws, springs or dampers you'll need again. Transfer reusable parts to the new lid if they aren't included, attach it to the hinges and check it closes evenly onto the lid switch. Run a short spin to confirm the machine accepts the closed lid.
