What the stepping motor does in an LG dishwasher
A stepping motor turns in small, precise steps rather than spinning freely. That lets the dishwasher's control board move part of the wash system to an exact position and hold it there. When the motor fails, the mechanism it drives stops moving, which can leave some of the load poorly washed, cause clicking or buzzing noises, or bring up an error code. A broken wire or loose plug at the motor can cause the same symptoms, so check those connections first.

Fitting the step motor
Unplug the dishwasher and turn off the water tap first. Depending on the model, you may need to remove the kick panel or tilt the machine to reach the motor, so empty any water from the base and put a towel down. Photograph the motor's position and wiring plug before removal and fit the new one the same way round. Run a full cycle and listen for normal operation.
