Product details

Part 4681A20042E is a genuine LG step motor assembly from LG's air conditioner parts range. A step motor turns in small, precise steps under the control of the electronic board, so it can move a part to an exact position and hold it there. Match the full part number, including the final letter E, to your old motor or your unit's parts list before ordering.

Air conditioner louvre stuck or not swinging

In a split system, step motors most often drive the louvre or vane that directs air up and down, opening it when the unit starts and closing it when it stops. When the motor fails, the louvre may stay shut, stick in one position, refuse to swing, or move in jerks with a clicking noise. Before blaming the motor, check the louvre isn't jammed by a broken linkage and that the motor plug is seated properly on the control board. If the louvre is free and the wiring checks out, the motor is the likely culprit.

Replacing the step motor

Turn the air conditioner off at its isolating switch or circuit breaker, as split systems are hard wired, and use a licensed electrician or air conditioning technician if you're not qualified. Remove the front cover to reach the motor, photograph the cable routing and unplug it from the board. Fit the new motor so its shaft engages the louvre, refit the cover and test the swing with the remote.
