Oven knob loose, cracked or spinning freely?

Oven knobs turn the spindles of the function selector and thermostat behind the control panel. Fitting the knob

Make sure the oven is off and cool. Pull the old knob straight off its spindle, avoiding levering it against the panel, which can mark the finish. Check the spindle isn't bent or loose. Line the new knob's flat up with the spindle, push it on firmly, and check the pointer reads off when the control is off. If the spindle itself is damaged, the switch or thermostat may need attention from a licensed electrician.
