440-14 is a generic 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch elbow for water lines. Elbows like this let a line turn a corner without kinking the tube, for example behind a fridge with a water dispenser or under the sink where a water filter is installed. Both ends are 1/4 inch, so it joins two sections of the same size and keeps the run neat.
Where a 1/4 inch elbow helps
Small water lines for fridges and filter systems are easily kinked when they have to bend sharply, and a kink cuts the flow to the dispenser or ice maker. An elbow takes the tight turn instead, letting the line run neatly along a wall or cabinet. It's also handy when replacing a cracked fitting on an existing installation. Before ordering, check whether your line uses 1/4 inch tube or a 1/4 inch thread, and match the connection type of the fittings either side.

Fitting the elbow
Turn off the water supply to the line and relieve the pressure by opening the dispenser or a tap. Cut the tube square and clean, without burrs, then push or tighten it fully into the fitting according to its connection type. Turn the water back on slowly and check every joint for drips over the next few hours.
