Fisher & Paykel washer won't fill or water keeps running

Each side of the valve has its own solenoid. The washer's controller opens hot, cold or both to get the right temperature, then closes them once the bowl reaches the set level. A solenoid that fails leaves that side dead, so the machine fills only with hot or only with cold, or not at all, and may stop with a water fault. Grit caught in a valve seat can stop it closing fully, so water creeps into the bowl even when the washer is idle. Weeping from the valve body or hose connections is another reason to replace it.

Changing the dual valve

Shut off both taps and unplug the machine. Unscrew the two hoses, being ready for a little water, and inspect the hose washers for cracks. With the cover off, mark which wires and outlet tubes go to the hot and cold sides before moving them across. Once the valve and panels are back in place, open the taps gradually and watch the connections through a full fill.
