Need to join two different sizes of water line? The 430-516 is a generic straight reducing connector with a 1/4 inch tube end and a 5/16 inch tube end. It's used on water filter systems, fridge water dispensers and ice maker supply lines, for example where a filter system runs on 5/16 inch tube but the fridge connection takes 1/4 inch.
Joining 1/4 inch and 5/16 inch water line
Water filters, under sink systems and plumbed fridges don't all use the same tube size. 1/4 inch tube is common on fridge supply lines, while 5/16 inch tube turns up on many filter housings and longer runs. A straight reducer joins the two in a neat inline connection with no bends to restrict flow. It's also the part to swap in when an old joiner has cracked or started dripping, which tends to show up as a soggy cabinet base or a slow leak you only find when the fridge is moved.

Making a leak free joint
Turn off the water supply before cutting into an existing line. Cut each tube end square with a sharp tube cutter or blade and remove any burrs. Insert each tube fully into its end of the connector, then give it a firm tug to confirm it's held. Turn the water on slowly and watch the joint for a few minutes.
Questions about this part
Is 5/16 inch tube the same as 8mm?
Close to it. 5/16 inch works out at about 7.9mm, which is why it's often sold alongside 8mm tube. Measure the outside diameter of your tube before ordering so each end of the connector matches.
