Product details
420296P is the genuine Fisher & Paykel rotor position sensor board, Mk2 service version, for top load washers with the SmartDrive direct drive motor. It's also listed as 425221P. Models on file cover the GW500 to GW712 series, the IW509 to IW812 machines and MW models from the MW051 to the MW512, including the GW600, GW711, IW711 and IW810.
Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive won't spin or agitate
A SmartDrive washer has no brushes or gearbox in its motor. The rotor position sensor reads where the rotor magnets are as they pass, so the motor controller knows which windings to power and when. When the sensor fails, the motor can't be driven properly. The basket may jerk, shudder or vibrate instead of turning, you might hear clicking at the start of agitate or spin, or a motor fault may show. Moisture on the board is a common cause.

Changing the rotor position sensor
Unplug the washer and turn off both taps. The sensor sits on the stator under the machine, so the rotor has to come off first. Tilt the machine back against a wall with a helper, undo the rotor nut and pull the rotor straight off. Unplug and unclip the old sensor, fit the new one in the same position, then refit the rotor and test on a short cycle.
Questions about this part
Is 425221P the same part?
Yes, 425221P is cross referenced to 420296P, which is the Mk2 service version. If your old sensor board carries either number, this is the board to order.
