Replacing a cracked rangehood light glass
The diffuser sits over the lamp under the hood, so it copes with heat from below and from the globe behind it. Tempered glass handles that heat well, but a knock from a pot or a slip during cleaning can still crack or shatter it. A missing diffuser leaves the lamp exposed to grease and moisture, which shortens globe life and lets grime build up around the holder. A cloudy or stained diffuser that won't come clean is also a fair reason to replace it.

Fitting the new diffuser
Switch the rangehood off and let the lamp cool, as globes run hot. Release the old glass by its clips or retaining tabs, supporting it so it doesn't drop onto the cooktop. Wipe out any grease behind it, then press the new diffuser into place until it sits flush with the hood.
