Ceramic cooktop zone not heating?
Under each zone of a ceramic cooktop is a radiant element, a coiled ribbon set in an insulated dish that glows red and heats the glass above it. A temperature limiter across the top protects the glass from overheating. When an element fails, that zone stays cold while others work, heats only in patches, or trips the safety switch when turned on. A visible break in the coil confirms it. If the zone glows but cycles on and off far too often, the energy regulator or limiter may be the cause instead.

Replacing a ceramic cooktop element
Cooktops are usually hard-wired, so isolate the circuit at the switchboard and have a licensed electrician do the replacement. On most models the glass top lifts away to expose the elements. Note the wiring on the old element, check the new one matches its diameter and fixing points, and make sure it sits flat against the underside of the glass before reassembling.
