Top loader thumping or hitting the cabinet during spin?
In a top loader, the outer tub hangs from the corners of the cabinet on four suspension rods. Each rod has a spring or damper at the lower end that soaks up movement as the load spins. Over time the springs sag and the dampers wear, so the tub swings further than it should. Typical complaints are loud banging on spin, the machine stopping with an out of balance warning, the tub sitting lower on one side, or the washer shaking and walking across the floor. When one rod has failed, the others are rarely far behind.

Replacing the suspension rods
Unplug the washer and turn off the taps. With the top deck lifted, each rod usually hooks into a corner of the cabinet and passes through a bracket on the tub. Change the rods one at a time so the tub stays supported, and note which way the ends sit. Run a rinse and spin with a small load afterwards to check the tub settles.
