Westinghouse cooker knobs cracked or slipping?
Knobs take daily handling, heat from the cooktop and regular cleaning sprays, so they wear faster than most cooker parts. Once the plastic inside the knob cracks, it slips on the switch shaft and you can no longer set a hotplate or oven temperature accurately. Worn or missing markings cause the same problem, as you end up guessing the setting. Fitting the new knobs
Make sure the cooktop and oven are off and cool, and switch off at the switchboard if you will be cleaning around the controls. Pull each old knob straight off its shaft without twisting. Line up the flat on each shaft with the new knob and press it on firmly. Turn each knob through its full range to check the markings align with the off position.
