Worn, cracked or spinning cooktop knobs
Control knobs take heat, grease and daily handling, so they fade, crack and wear out over time. The most common problem is a knob that spins without turning the control because the socket inside has worn round or split. Swapping the knobs
Make sure every burner or hotplate is off and the cooktop is cool. Pull each old knob straight up off its spindle, without twisting or levering against the cooktop surface. Wipe the spindles clean, line up the flat side of each spindle with the new knob and press it down firmly. Turn each knob through its full range to check it operates the control smoothly.
