Switch the air conditioner off at the isolator or circuit breaker before taking any covers off. In most indoor units the step motor sits at one end of the louvre, held by a couple of small screws, with a plug lead running back to the control board. Photograph the lead routing, fit the new motor so its shaft engages the louvre, then restore power and test the swing from the remote.
