The cavity seal runs around the front frame of the oven and forms a soft barrier for the door to close against. It traps heat and moisture inside, keeps cooking temperatures steady and stops hot air spilling out over the knobs and controls. As the seal ages, it can go hard, flatten, tear or pull away from its fixings. You might notice cooking times getting longer, food browning unevenly, steam or smoke leaking from the top of the door, a hot control panel or scorch marks on the cupboard beside the oven.

Fitting the cavity seal
Wait until the oven is completely cold. Opening the door wide, or lifting it off, gives better access. Ease the old seal out and note where the two clips sit, then press the new seal into the same positions, starting at the clips and working along the frame. Avoid stretching it, as that leaves gaps at the ends. Heat the oven empty for a while to let the new seal settle.
