Why pyrolytic oven inner glass cracks

The inner pane is the layer facing the cooking cavity. It holds heat in, lets you check food without opening the door and keeps the outer glass cool enough to touch. In a pyrolytic oven it also has to cope with the self clean cycle, which burns residue off at temperatures far beyond normal baking. A chip on the edge, a heavy knock from a tray or cold water on hot glass can start a crack that spreads with each heat cycle. Wait until the oven is completely cold and isolate the power. Taking the door off and laying it on a folded towel gives you a stable surface to work on.
