Rangehood filters loose or not sitting flush?
Filters on a rangehood need to sit snug against the canopy so that cooking fumes pass through the mesh rather than around it. The trim support gives the filters a firm edge to locate on and finishes the underside of the hood. When it cracks, warps from heat, or loses its fixing points, the filters can hang crooked, rattle when the fan is on, or fall out during cleaning. Grease then bypasses the filter and builds up inside the hood and ducting, which is harder to clean and a fire risk.

Changing the trim support
Switch the rangehood off at the wall or at its isolating switch. Remove the grease filters and set them aside. Look at how the old trim support is fixed, by clips or screws, and photograph it before removal. Fit the new support the same way, refit the filters and check they latch in and sit flush.
