On gas cooktops, a harness like this links the small switch behind each burner valve to the spark generator, so pressing a knob triggers the igniter. The five point version usually suits a five burner layout, and there is a separate four point harness for four burners. Count the switches on your old harness and match the number before ordering.
Gas burner not sparking when you push the knob?
Each micro switch sits on a gas valve spindle and closes when the knob is pressed in, sending the signal that fires the spark igniters. Grease, spilt liquids and heat break these switches down over time. Typical faults are no spark on one burner, no spark on any burner, or clicking that keeps going after the knob is released. A shorted switch, often caused by moisture, can make the igniters tick nonstop even with the cooktop off. Because the switches are joined on a single loom, replacing the whole harness is often simpler than chasing one switch.

Fitting the switch harness
Turn the cooktop off at the wall, or isolate the circuit at the switchboard if it is hard-wired, and shut off the gas. Lift off the trivets, burners and top to reach the valves. Clip each switch onto its valve in the same position as the old one and route the loom away from hot burner parts. Hard-wired cooktops need a licensed electrician, and gas components need a licensed gas fitter.
