Why replace a rangehood flue cover
Chimney style rangehoods use two telescoping covers. The lower one sits on the canopy, and the upper one slides inside or over it to reach the ceiling, hiding the duct and the mounting bracket. The upper cover is easy to dent or scratch during installation, renovations or a move, and it can be lost or cut to the wrong height when a hood is reinstalled under a different ceiling. A dented or mismatched cover stands out in a kitchen, and a gap at the top leaves ducting exposed.

Fitting the upper flue cover
Switch the rangehood off at the wall, or at the isolator if it's hard-wired. Protect the cooktop with a cloth. The upper cover is normally fixed to a bracket at the ceiling with small screws, with the lower cover sliding over it. Remove the old cover carefully to avoid scratching the lower one, then fit the new cover, line up the screw holes and check the joint sits straight. Peel off any protective film last.
