Westinghouse dishwasher washing poorly on one rack? Check the diverter
The diverter directs water from the wash pump to the upper or lower spray arm, so the machine can alternate between racks and run each at full pressure. This version also houses sensors that check water pressure and how cloudy the wash water is, which lets automatic programs judge how dirty the load is. A faulty diverter can leave one rack dirty while the other comes out clean, stop a spray arm turning, cause filling or water level problems, or bring up an error code. Leaks around the sump can also point to it.

Replacing the diverter
Turn the dishwasher off at the wall, unplug it and shut the water tap. The diverter sits low in the machine near the sump, so the dishwasher will need to come out and the base or kickboard opened up. Soak up any water left in the sump, photograph the wiring plugs and hose positions, then swap the unit across. Run a program and watch both spray arms and the base for leaks.
