When the oven fan motor is on its way out
The fan motor sits behind the back wall of the oven and spins the blade that moves hot air off the fan forced element. Without it, heat collects around the element and food cooks unevenly, burning at the back and staying pale at the front. Typical warning signs are grinding, rattling or squealing when fan mode is selected, a blade that turns slowly or stops, or a motor that hums without spinning. A seized motor can also trip the safety switch. If the blade is free and undamaged but won't turn in fan bake, the motor is the likely culprit.

Replacing the fan motor
Isolate power to the oven at the switchboard or isolating switch before you start. Remove the racks and the rear fan cover, then take off the fan blade, noting how it was fitted. The motor mounts to the back of the cavity and is wired from behind, so the oven usually has to come out of the cabinet. Take photos of the wiring first. Hard-wired ovens must be reconnected by a licensed electrician.
