Westinghouse fridge warm or fan noisy? Signs of a failing fan motor
Fridges with a fan rely on it to keep air moving over the cooling coil and around the cabinet. When the motor slows down or stops, cold air no longer reaches every shelf. The fridge section warms up even though the compressor keeps running, freezer food may soften, and frost can build up around the coil. Worn bearings give themselves away with a squealing, buzzing or grinding noise from the fan area. Ice catching the blade makes a similar racket, so rule that out before replacing the motor.

Changing the fan motor
Switch the fridge off at the wall before removing any covers, and move food into an esky if the job will take a while. Photograph the wiring and mounting, then unclip the old motor. Transfer the fan blade and any rubber mounts that don't come with the new motor. Make sure the blade spins freely without touching the cover, refit the panels and allow a few hours for the cabinet to cool down again.
