Dryer drum not turning? Check the drive belt
The belt wraps around the outside of the drum and over the motor pulley, so the motor can turn the drum and tumble the clothes. Belts stretch, crack and eventually snap with age and heavy loads. Signs include a drum that will not turn even though the motor runs, a drum that spins freely by hand, a slapping or squealing noise, or a burning rubber smell. A belt that keeps slipping may have glazed, shiny ribs. While the belt is off, check the tension pulley and drum rollers, as a seized pulley will wreck a new belt quickly.

Fitting a dryer belt
Unplug the dryer before taking any panels off. Photograph the old belt's path before removing it, so you can see how it wraps the drum and runs around the motor pulley and tensioner. Lay the new belt around the drum with the ribs facing in, then loop it over the pulley under tension. Turn the drum by hand a few times to centre the belt, then run a short cycle.
