When a top loader fills and washes but won't empty, the drain pump is the first suspect. It's listed for close to two hundred models, from the Simpson SWT902SA and SWT955SA and the 22S and 36S ranges to the Electrolux EWT806SB and Westinghouse LT machines.
Washing machine not draining or humming loudly
The pump pushes used water out of the bowl and up the drain hose at the end of each wash and rinse. If it fails, you'll find the machine stopped full of water, clothes left soaking wet after the spin, or a loud hum with no water moving. A pump that runs but drains slowly often has a coin, hair tie or scrap of fabric jammed at the impeller, so check for blockages before replacing it. Replacing the drain pump
Switch off at the wall, turn off the taps and bail or drain the water out of the bowl first. Tilt or lay the machine so you can reach the pump at the base, with towels underneath. Photograph the wiring and hose positions, move the hoses across using new clamps if the old ones are tired, and run a rinse and spin to test.
