Oven cutting out or not heating at all?
This cutout is the oven's last line of protection against overheating. It sits in the circuit as a closed switch and snaps open if the temperature where it's mounted climbs past 120C, cutting power before anything gets damaged. Once it trips repeatedly or fails, the oven may shut down mid-cook, refuse to heat at all or lose power to the elements. A cutout that has failed open stays open circuit even when cold. If it keeps tripping, look for the cause as well, such as a cooling fan that has stopped or a door seal letting heat out.

Testing and fitting the cutout
Switch the oven off at the switchboard before opening any panels, and use a licensed electrician if it's hard-wired. Test the old cutout cold with a multimeter. A good one shows continuity. Note which wire goes to each spade terminal, swap the cutout and screw it down firmly against its mounting surface so it senses heat properly. Find out why it tripped before using the oven again.
