Uneven or yellow wok burner flame? Check the burner cap
The burner cap sits on top of the burner head and shapes the ring of flame that comes out of the ports beneath it. On a wok burner the outer cap works with the inner cap to spread heat across a wide pan. If the cap is cracked, warped, chipped or not sitting flat, gas escapes unevenly. You will see a lopsided or yellow flame, flames lifting off the burner, soot on pans, or trouble getting the burner to light and stay lit.

Fitting the burner cap
Make sure every burner is off and the cooktop is cold. Lift the trivet and the old cap off, and clean the burner head and ports with a soft brush so nothing blocks the flame. Seat the new cap so it sits flat and centred, locating on any lugs, then light the burner and check for an even blue flame. If flame faults continue after that, have a licensed gas fitter check the cooktop.
