Oven functions not working? The selector switch may be at fault
Turning the function knob rotates this switch, which connects power to the right combination of elements, fan and light for each setting. Its contacts carry heavy current, so over time they can burn, pit or weld together. Typical signs include one or more functions doing nothing, the oven heating on the wrong setting, a knob that turns loosely or without clicking into position, scorch marks on the switch body, or a burning smell from the control panel. A faulty switch can also trip the safety switch.

Replacing the selector switch
Isolate the oven at the switchboard before removing the control panel, and turn off the gas too on gas models. Pull off the knob, free the switch from its mounting and label or photograph every wire before disconnecting, as terminal positions matter. Move the wires across to the new switch one at a time. Hard-wired ovens should be worked on by a licensed electrician, and any gas work done by a licensed gas fitter.
