When the inner glass on a Chef oven door needs replacing
Oven doors use layers of glass with air gaps between them, which keeps the heat inside the cavity and the outside of the door cooler to touch. The inner layer copes with the highest temperatures as well as fat splatter and cleaning products. Cracks, chips or a pane that has shattered after a knock or a sudden change in temperature mean the door no longer insulates properly. You may notice the oven taking longer to heat up, a hotter door front or heat escaping around the glass. A damaged pane can break further, so replace it rather than keep cooking with it.

Taking the door off to change the glass
Turn the oven off at the isolating switch and let it cool completely. On most models the door needs to come off its hinges before the glass can be reached, so lay it face down on a folded towel. Note the order and orientation of each pane, plus any clips, seals or spacers, as they come out. Fit the new glass the same way round, refit the door and check it closes evenly. Wear gloves when handling broken glass.
