Many gas barbecues use an AA battery to power the electronic ignition, and the holder links that battery into the ignition circuit. Sitting outdoors, it is exposed to rain, heat and humidity, and a flat battery left inside can leak and corrode the contacts. Symptoms include no click or spark when you press the ignition button, a weak spark that only works now and then, or a battery that rattles loose. Try a fresh battery first, then inspect the holder for cracks, green corrosion or bent contacts.

Replacing the battery holder
Turn off all burners and close the gas cylinder valve before working on the BBQ. Remove the cap and the old battery, then note how the holder is mounted and how its wires connect to the ignition module. Photograph the connections, swap the holder across, fit a new 1.5V AA battery the right way round and refit your cap. Test the spark with the gas still off before lighting as normal.

No. This holder is supplied without its end cap. If your existing cap is in good condition, reuse it on the new holder, otherwise you will need a replacement cap to keep the battery secure and dry.
