Product details

Part 4055558029 is a genuine Electrolux defrost heater element for frost free fridges and freezers in the Electrolux group. It warms the evaporator coil during each defrost cycle so built-up frost melts and drains away. Wattage and fit details aren't on file for this number, so confirm it from your fridge's parts list or the label on the old heater before ordering.

Fridge warming up with ice on the back panel?

In a frost free fridge, moisture freezes onto the evaporator coil as it cools the air. Every so often the control stops cooling and switches on the defrost heater to melt that frost. If the heater fails, frost keeps building until it blocks the coil and the fan can no longer push cold air through. The usual signs are a fridge section that slowly gets warmer while the freezer may still feel cold, a thick layer of ice on the rear panel or around the vents, and a fan that sounds louder or catches on ice. A continuity test on the heater confirms an open circuit.

Replacing the defrost heater

Unplug the fridge, empty it and leave the doors open with towels down so the evaporator can thaw completely. Don't chip at the ice, as a pierced coil means an expensive sealed system repair. Photograph the wiring and clips before removing the old heater. Fit the new element in the same position, check the defrost drain is clear, then refit the covers and restart the fridge.

Questions about this part

Should I check anything else while the heater is out?

Yes. Test the defrost sensor or thermostat and make sure the drain under the evaporator is clear. A failed sensor or blocked drain can cause the same icing problem, and both are easy to check while everything is open.
