Outdoor unit rattling, vibrating or overheating
The outdoor fan has to move a large volume of air for the system to run efficiently. A cracked or broken blade throws it out of balance, causing heavy vibration, rattling or a thumping noise. Debris such as sticks or leaves can strike the blades and chip them. If the fan cannot move enough air, the outdoor unit runs hot, and the system may cool or heat poorly, trip on high pressure, or shut down with a fault code. Replacing the outdoor fan
Isolate the outdoor unit at its isolator switch and the circuit breaker before removing the grille. Note how the fan is fixed to the motor shaft and mark its position. Fit the new fan in the same place, tighten the fixing securely and spin it by hand to check it clears the shroud. If you aren't qualified to work on hard-wired equipment, use a licensed technician.

With the power isolated, spin the fan by hand. If it turns freely but a blade is cracked or the fan wobbles, the fan is the problem. If it feels stiff, grinds or will not start when powered, the motor is more likely at fault.
