Westinghouse oven grill not working
This element is mounted in the roof of the oven and glows red when the grill is on. It also helps bring the oven up to heat on settings that use the top element. When it fails, the grill stays cold, toast and cheese won't brown, and preheating drags on for some functions. Look for a break, blister or burnt spot along the element, or a section that no longer glows. A shorted element can also trip the safety switch as soon as the grill is selected.

Changing the grill element
Isolate the oven at the switchboard and let it cool fully. Take out the shelves and support the element while you undo its fixings. The terminals are reached from the back or top of the oven, which usually means removing it from the cabinet. Photograph the wiring before disconnecting it. Any hard-wired oven must be reconnected by a licensed electrician.
